You want me to do what?

I had a text conversation yesterday that caused me to check my calendar for the current year. I should have known by virtue of the conversation being via text, but I had to confirm that yes it was still 2012 and not 1960. A few weeks ago I suggested to mylover that he cook dinner on Tuesdays and Thursdays as those are the days that he gets home early from work. I can’t recall if he fully bought into the idea because I was kidding and it didn’t really matter to me. Cooking for him is tacos or over seasoned chicken, both of which I can do without on a regular basis.

Fast forward to yesterday, I sent a text that said what’s for dinner. It didn’t really occur to me that it was Thursday and that he might think I was expecting him to cook. I was really just asking for suggestions. The night before we had carry out so I was trying to get a feel for he might like. Anyway, his response was did my mom ever ask my dad to cook dinner. What!?! I was totally taken aback. What did that have to do with anything? Then it struck me, oh it’s Thursday. He thinks I want him to cook. Anyway, I answered the question. When my sister and I her young my mother worked midnights so she could be home during the day. So there was never a reason for her to ask my dad to cook. When asked if his mother ever asked his dad to cook, the response was NEVER! Well goody goody.

My response was that this was a different day; to which mylover responded different day same principles. What the hell!?! I mean really who actually thinks that women should do all the cooking.

Is there any place in a modern society for traditional values?
